what a day

We can't complain about Western Washingtons winters today! I came home from helping a friend this morning and was planning on finishing up my daughters quilt so I could send it over with my daughter-in-law who is visiting her tomarrow .(Their going to Forks, for all you Twilight fans!) But when I got home everyone was outside and it was 60 degrees out! I couldn't bring myself to go inside! We raked, swept, burned,got out the riding lawnmower(my baby),charged up the battery and Lance and I went riding up and down the road, even mowed alittle. Children running all over , it was almost like summer. Oh, I can't wait. I really miss hanging my cloths out on the line. Something to look forward too!

    Let me just start out and say you don't know me. I just started a blog and I was going through the blogs and found yours. I like it! I saw lots of pictures of your family and grandparents and thought you might like to submit a story of yours to my project. I am collecting stories of our relatives and ways they conserved, prepared, and grew food. I also live in Western washington.

 I've always had a bird feeder, for years now. They bring alot of joy to me, nature so up close and personal. Now that we don't have any pets, we've loved having our bird feeders up again. We have this one tree out back and we have a little of everything for them. A little bird bath, three feeders and a suet feeder. There's usually ten to twenty birds in the tree at all times. Lots of beautiful finches, lots of yard birds, lots of black birds (who are quite noisy) red wing black birds and yellow headed black birds. We finally identified one that we couldn't figure out and its a Evening Grosbeak. Some come and we never see them again, just passing through. But, it's our little obsession right now, gives me something to do every morning. But, dang those birds are eating us out of house and home!

oh honey you shouldn't have

 chop, chop, chop were the sounds I woke up too yesterday. I've been hearing those sounds alot these last few weeks as my manly man has made hot sauce and salsa galore. But..............this morning it was different. I woke up to a beautiful bowl of tabbouleh...my favorite salad. The combination of the bulgar, parsley, cucumber and tomatoes just tickles my palet. My favorite part this time of the year are the pomegranate seeds, they add such color and flavor.(I really shouldn't be eating it but I chewed extra well ummm) Oooops a jar of grape juice just broke, manly man is canning....be right back. O.K. that's cleaned up and I'm heading out for a long overdue walk. It's a lovely day, blue skies and sun.

all is well

My daughter Becky should be home from the hospital soon, her surgery went well. Next the mourning for what was and will never be again, she had a lot of good cries last night. They weighed the breast and it was seven and a half pounds! I knew it was close to ten. Like she said jokingly she was looking forward to getting "alot off her chest". When I talked to her on the phone this morning I asked her how in the world did she ever get anything done with a two year old and 5mon. old! I did manage to get us all clean and fed by eleven. Is that good? And to think I raised six! Todays is Becky's Abbie's birthday, we hope to go to the movies this afternoon. I guess on the way home from the hospital they are picking up a new kitty for the children. They had promised them one when they moved in to their house, so how wonderful of them to realize what a good time it would be to bring one home.
