no soapstone

My neighbor, her children,my two grandchildren, headed east , up into the Cascade Mt.s Saturday to look for soapstone. My Manly Man had taken his scout troop last summer and come home with tons of soapstone to carve on all winter long. Well, it was such an incredibly beautiful day that we forgot one thing......there's still snow in the mountains! The roads were all clear....until we got a mile from the soapstone where there was a big gate that said CLOSED. We had some disappointed children but, a play in the snow , and dinner out helped alittle. My friend and I enjoyed the drive, it was so beautiful. We'll go back in a month or two.

We drove over Stevens Pass, admired the skiers, drove along Lake Wenatchee and were just a few miles from a fun little town called Leavenworth. It was a floundering town years ago, when they decided to turn it into a Bavarian village. Our German exchange student said it was spot on.So , now its a much visited vacation destination.

  1. Bummer. Did you eat gelato in Leavenworth, because that would definitely console me.

  3. Why would you want a Bavarian Village in Washington? Do they have a Washington theme park in Bavaria?

What great luck to be able to dig up your own Soapstone. Lovely stuff to carve.

  5. cro,
I understand what your saying but you have to remember that europes got cute villages down to a T, we on the otherhand have very few, so it gives us poor washingtonians something to visit!
