the wanderers come home

For my special time yesterday I decided to take one of my favorite drives. I headed north toward the border to a town called Mt. Vernon, only 35 miles from Snohomish. My destination was Chuckanut Drive, one of the most scenic drives in Washington.

Once you get on Chuckanut Drive (I love how that rolls off your tongue)it is a little curvy road that's very difficult to drive when your looking at all the beautiful scenery. Fortunately there are lots of turnouts to see the view.

My first walk was down to see the oyster farms, of which there are many, and also lots of wonderful oyster restaurants along the way overlooking the water.I remember having a wonderful salmon dinner at one of them.(I don't like oysters)

This is an old picture from when it was first built...

This is a scene I could sit and stare at forever.Unfortunately it was an overcast day and my camara doesn't do it justice. Chuckanut drive ends up in the town of Bellingham which is a lovely college town that sits on the water. As your driving, you are offered beautiful views of the San Juan Islands.

Here are some of the Oyster beds, at the right time of the year you can even go out and harvest your own.
There is a lovely state park along the way called Larabee State Park that lets you hike down to the shoreline to enjoy lots of sea life, our favorite being the purple starfish that are everywhere! We brought the grandchildren for cousin camp a few years ago, and we have numerous pictures of them with starfish . A lovely day trip with children.

On the way home I treated myself to a chic flick, "Dear John", I loved it and even cried, which I don't do much....its usually my manly man that cries.(please don't tell him I told you that!)

So I came home and guess who else came home? Yes, those noisy Guinea Hens were waiting outside their pen this morning! So, they do know where they live, they just had to get hungry enough!
