Were starting to make plans for our third annual cousin camp. This year were going to the other side of the mountians to a place called Ensign Camp. Were going with an Indian theme this year thus the tepee. This is a picture of my son and granddaughters who camped there a year or so ago. We'll have eleven grandchildren old enough to go this year....you have to be five to go. The first year we rented a yurt at Kayak Point, just a stones throw from the beach. The last one we had at our house in the woods. We put tents up, even had an outhouse for them, and using the house as a base went to different activities. Its very intense, but, we make lots of memories. My Manly Man always comes up with a song that we add verses too as the camp progress's. I'm going to try to be alittle more organized this year, I guess each time we'll get better. Next year were going to be adding the four , four year olds! Ouch!We moved around so much when our children were growing up that they never got to be very close to their cousins. Well, were going to try our best to see that their children have the chance. Last year we opted for a family reunion instead and almost had a rebellion, the kids were not happy. (me thinks they like getting away from their parents)
Remember, we are doing cousin camp every other year with a reunion in between. So you wont add 4 more kids until 2012, so they will be 6 years old.

Eventually you'll have to make the older kids "camp counselors". They can have their own little groups of cousins to be responsible for. DELEGATE!

Cousin buddies are the best! Our kids had them and what memories they have. We always went as a family (the whole gang) once a year for a few days to Snydermille which is at the base of the Olympic Ski Jump just outside of Park City. It's where my inlaws had their stake property. It's a huge house big enough in the living room for kids to rollerskate around in, play four square, watch a movie-at one end-, a quilt set up, 3 or more tables, 4 couches, etc. Does that give you a good picture? There are at least 6 huge bedrooms in the basement and 2 big ones upstairs. The kids would drag the bunkbeds together and make forts. The kitchen has 2 stoves and 2 friges. It's on a very large property with a camp fire area, playground, etc. Right by Park City with the Alpine slide, etc., movie theaters, and a huge discount mall nearby. They just started about 5 years ago opening it up to the public to rent. It used to be only for the stake. WE have had so much fun and made so many fun projects up there. By the way-the FBI stayed there during the Olympics. Sadly my mother-in-law passed away last year and my father-in-law is in a care center now. Life goes on but it's very sad that Snydermille is over for all of us. We're just going to have to do some new things now as we're the grandparents (weird to think!). I love the yurt idea you all had. Love those huge family parties! That photo is so picturesque and would make such a beautiful painting. Another fabulous fun family reunion spot is Lava Hot Springs in Idaho. We had girl's camp there one year and it was a blast!

ReplyDeleteJulie! You went to Lava Hot Springs! We also had youth trips there when I lived in the Tri-Cities!Well Snydermille might be over for you but you'll always have fond memories and so will the children. Memories is what its all about.
ReplyDeleteWe have been to Lava lots of times. When the kids were little we'd stay in the condos by the big pool. They loved to go downtown to get in the hot pools at night around 11:00 (they thought they were so important getting to stay up so late!). We went golfing, fishing, bought fun things. We love that place. Then for girls camp we stayed in a place that's on the far east side of the town (I think). It's called something like "Bristlecone springs". Can't remember exact name but it's a huge property with houses to rent and little pastel cabins that only hold a bed. I could go on and on but of course the girls had to set up their tents for their achievements. We had a tree that grew lip gloss(ha ha) that we went to for them to pick their own. We did all the other fun stuff in town. But my FAVORITE thing of all is going down the river on a tube! Love it! As you float along there are hot springs going into the water. I want to go there right now!
