life throws us a curve ball....

We've kinda been sitting around this week waiting on a biopsy report. My daughter has a fast growing tumor on her left breast. The breast will have to be removed whether or not it's cancerous. The oncologist said today its a common cancer in young women her age. She also has a spot on her lung they want to check out.So, she'll have a pet scan next week. They inject a glucose into the body and it will attach itself to any cancer and glow. So, now the waiting game. Its the worst.  She's so hoping she won't have to do chemo, and of course that is our hope also.You can imagine the things darting in and out of our minds, trying to let it sink in but not to far. Thinking of the things I'd like to do differently then when our son went through this. I'm appointing myself Becky's caretaker . Sweet Lily (and this wasn't posed) Korean Valentine's Day dinner On the plate is pink rice (usually white!), thinly sliced beef, dried seaweed, all to be rolled together and dipped in sesame oil and salt. Sarah's children love Korean food, thanks to their Korean Grandma. She cooks all kinds of things (some that I won't eat)for them and they eat it all! This is something that is everyones favorite (even I have developed a taste for dried seaweed). Its so easy, and we make ourselves sick on it. Luna and Hannah...best friends Our daughter Rachel.She's learning how to play the guitar and we'll all be glad when she learns another song! Conner still crying after his blessing.He wasn't real happy. Chloe in her baptism dress. She's one special girl! These are some cute things in Sarah's lovely house.

the best cornbread in the world!

We all jump for joy when my manly man makes his cornbread. We took it to a church function once and a senior citizen said it tasted just like her grandmothers! The recipe is out of the Original Boston Cooking-School Cookbook 1896 by Fannie Farmer. It says things like,"make sure the oven is hot". The only reason I hesitate giving out this recipe is that not everyone has home grown indian corn that they grind. I think it gives it the old fashion touch. My manly man grows indian corn every year, dries it , and grinds it when needed. Here's the simple recipe straight from Fannie Farmer- Golden Corn Cake 3/4 Cups corn meal 1 1/4 Cups flour 1/2 C. sugar 4 t. baking powder 1/2 t. salt 1 Cup milk 1 egg 1 T. melted butter Mix and sift dry ingredients; add milk, egg well beaten, and butter; bake in shallow buttered pan in hot oven for twenty minutes.
